UV-vis spectrophotometer measures changes in absorbance of a molecule as a function of several parameters such as wavelength, time, concentration etc in addition to determining the intrinsic optical properties of the sample under investigation. It has a number of applications in biosciences, chemical and material sciences as well as in the pharmaceutical sciences for quality control. The Cary 100 UV-visible instrument housed in our central facility is equipped with a 12 cell multi-cell holder and a peltier thermal controller to permit temperature dependant analysis of up to 12 samples concurrently. Apart from the regular analysis of intrinsic properties of the samples, this machine can be used to understand a number of drug-biomolecule interaction processes by observing the changes in the absorbance with respect to the amount of drug being added. It also helps to analyze the changes in the microenvironment of the biomolecule upon drug binding. It pharmaceutical industry, UV-Visible spectrophotometers are integral part of the quality control and used routinely in the analysis of drug samples.
The UV-Visible spectrophotometer present in our facility allows following analysis-
